Why I Started SJLITCO
In 2025, I attended ApollyCon, the book convention hosted by Jennifer L. Armentrout, where I was able to meet so many authors and author assistants. I grew up down the road from JLA and had always dreamed of attending ApollyCon. When thinking back on my experience, the author assistants are one of the main things that pop into my head and I kept returning to the idea of starting something of my own.
Over the first few months of 2026, I worked with a close friend who is an indie author to see if this is something I was truly passionate about. I have loved being part of her publishing journey and supporting her work behind the scenes. Quickly, I realized this was something I genuinely wanted to pursue, and St. John Literary Co. was born. I am so excited to start my journey as an author assistant and work with more authors!
Meet Haley!
I grew up in Charles Town, West Virginia, where I lived with both of my parents before heading to WVU to earn my bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in business. Like any hopeless romantic book lover, I met a boy and decided to move ten hours away, finishing my last year of college remotely to live out my own romance novel. A few months after I moved, Jay and I got engaged and then married in the fall of 2022. Now, I live in Middle Tennessee with my husband and our three fur children, two cats and one dachshund (his name is Azriel & yes it is because of SJM).
Corporately, I have four years of experience working in administrative roles, including two years as an Executive Assistant to a C-suite officer in a fundraising and development department. While I still work in the nonprofit space for my day job, I am so excited to take those skills and apply them to one of my many passions, books!
The most important thing to know about me is that I am a Christian. I was saved in 2020 during COVID, and my faith has been a central part of my life ever since. I love serving in my church’s youth group and attending small group each week with my husband. When I am not working or at church, you can usually find me reading a book or traveling somewhere new for a long weekend.
Who I Work With
As I started researching more about the industry, I noticed a gap in the author PA space, especially when it comes to supporting Christian authors. While I am open and excited to work with authors of all backgrounds, I am especially passionate about working with Christian authors, including those who write outside of the Christian fiction genre. I love supporting authors who want their faith to be part of who they are as a writer, even if it is not the focus of what the story they are writing. It is my goal to create a space where that is understood and supported throughout the process. Although working with Christian Authors is something I am very passionate about, I am equally excited to work with authors of all backgrounds.
The genres I would love to assist in are romance, fantasy, romantasy, dystopian, YA, and Christian fiction. While these are definitely my bread and butter, I am extremely open to expanding my reach and assisting with genres not listed.
I truly want to be your biggest supporter, so it is really important to me that we are a great fit and that I genuinely connect with your writing! There is something special about working on a story you are excited about, and I believe authors deserve someone who feel that same connection to their work that they do. To make sure that we are a good fit for each other, I offer a complimentary 5-chapter read-through (or 10K words) along with a 20-minute video call for all potential clients!
